Description
The USB-Connect is created with three applications in mind. The first scenario is the testing of USB devices in industial test fields. Because the connecting and cutting is realized the same way as human will handle the USB plug it is an ideal automation device for this purpose. When disconnecting, the data lines will be cutted first and after about 20 ms the power will be cutted second. Connecting is realized by applying power first and data lines 20 ms later. The controlled USB connection is electrically fully seperated from the USB-Connect.
Some complex USB device sometimes crashes inside. Often the only way to get them work again is to connect them physically from the PC. Using the USB-Connect, this could be done by software control.
Another application is the use of high end cameras connected to a PC. Some of these will not accept manual commands like taking a shot as long as the USB is connected. The USB-Cutter will solve this inconvinience and the control could bounce between the PC and the camera just by clicking the button of our application USB-Switch.
The size of the switch is about 40 x 90 x 23 mm. Left and right there are one USB socket type A and one USB socket B were located. On top of the device are one green and one red LED to display the status of the USB Connect.
The USB-Connect should be operated in inner rooms only and should
be protected against humidity. The permissible operating temperature
range is 10° - 80° Celsius.
About 32 switches may be connected to a PC using
several HUBs. The HUBs used must use a separate power supply. When
using Cleware USB devices it is not neccessary to install device
drivers. The standard USB drivers are sufficient. So the system
stability will not be harmed.
The USB-Connect will be delivered with the software ClewareControl for displaying and switching. For easy access a very simple graphical program called USBswitch controls the switch just by clicking on icons. And for integration in batch programs, a command line tool USBswitchCMD is available. The software is running with Windows®
98, Windows® 98 SE, Windows® ME, Windows® 2000, Windows®
XP and Windows® .NET. (® Microsoft Windows is a registered
trademark of the Microsoft Corporation).
For easy access a very simple graphical program also comes with the device. The program USBswitch controls the switch just by clicking on icons. And for integration in batch programs, a command line tool USBswitchCMD is available.
An application program interface (API) to drive the USB-Connect from customer programs is part of the delivery. The API bundles
some very simple functions for opening and reading the device. The
complex USB device handling is hided.
Linux support is also available. An application
program interface (API) and a simple example for turning an USB-Connect is supplied.
Please note:
PC programs may fail or may be interfeared through other programs.
Don't connect devices to the USB-Connect that may cause harm if the
switch turns on unexpected!
